Is a metal-free implant right for you?

Zirconia implants are made from a strong, white ceramic instead of titanium. Patients choose them for a few reasons:

You are sensitive to titanium or concerned about possible titanium allergies
You prefer a completely metal-free restoration
You have thin gum tissue in the front of your mouth, where a gray metal implant could show through
You want a natural, tooth-colored foundation for your new tooth

Long-term research on zirconia implants is more limited than for titanium, which has decades of data behind it. Dr. Waasdorp places both and will walk you through the pros and cons of each for your situation, so you can make an informed choice.

The Ceraroot zirconia implant system

Dr. Waasdorp places the Ceraroot system, a one-piece zirconia implant. Because the implant and the post that supports your crown are a single piece, there is no metal and no abutment screw. Patients sometimes search for these as “screwless” implants.

Every case starts with 3D cone beam imaging in our office, which shows the exact amount of bone available and lets Dr. Waasdorp plan placement precisely. If bone is lacking, bone grafting and ridge reconstruction can create the foundation an implant needs.

What to expect

1. Consultation

An exam and 3D cone beam scan to review your bone, gums and goals, and whether zirconia or titanium suits you best.

2. Treatment plan

A clear plan and estimate, coordinated with your restorative dentist, who will make your final crown.

3. Implant placement

Minimally invasive placement guided by your 3D scan. Grafting is done first if it is needed.

4. Your new tooth

Once the implant has bonded with the bone, your dentist places a natural-looking crown.

Frequently asked questions

Are zirconia implants as strong as titanium?

Zirconia is a very strong, fracture-resistant ceramic and works well for many single-tooth cases. Titanium has a longer research history and more restoration options. The right choice depends on your bite, your bone and your goals, and we will review both with you at your consultation.

Do I need a titanium allergy to choose a metal-free implant?

No. Some patients choose zirconia because of a known sensitivity, but many simply prefer a metal-free option or want the most natural look where gums are thin.

Are these the same as “screwless” dental implants?

Ceraroot implants are one-piece, meaning the implant and the post for your crown are a single piece with no abutment screw. That is usually what people mean by “screwless” implants.

What if I don’t have enough bone for an implant?

Our 3D cone beam imaging shows exactly how much bone is available. If there is not enough, bone grafting and ridge reconstruction can grow new bone so an implant can be placed.

Will my regular dentist be involved?

Yes. Dr. Waasdorp works closely with your restorative dentist, who designs and places your final crown.

How much do metal-free implants cost?

Cost depends on how many implants you need, whether grafting is required and the type of final restoration. You will receive a detailed estimate at your consultation.

Dr. Waasdorp is highly efficient with skillful expertise and execution.
